My last post was about wallets, but I wanted to take a full post for this one. The Wax Cloud Wallet is something I've been tinkering with lately and it's pretty neat. Setting it up is as simple as any other wallet. Download the software, set it up, document and store the necessary information and so on. Once you have your wallet set up, you're going to want to purchase some Wax tokens. These are staked on the blockchain, giving you access to cloud computing resources, according to how much you've staked. The main one you're going to want to focus on is . I would not bother staking much more than 1 or 2 on , and you'll want to stake a few on as well, but having a hundred or more tokens on CPU is going to ensure you can use the games and dapps (decentralized applications) on their blockchain. You can view your staked tokens / available resources, and other tokens in your wallet either through the wax wallet website, or through the blockchain explorer, 'wax.bloks.io'. I recommend using the explorer, it's very informative and pretty easy to navigate.
Now that you've taken care of your wallet, it's time to explore the dapps and games. There are exchanges / markets, like Alcor and Atomic, where you can purchase or sell NFT's and other resources to use in game, such as weapons, armor, tools, plots of land, minions, and in game currency. One of the most popular games right now is called Alien Worlds, and takes the least to get started that I could find, needing only a small amount of CPU to play a little each day. In this game, you can mine plots of land on different planets to earn Trillium, a token on the BINANCE Smart Chain (your Trillium will be on the Wax Network by default, you will need to move it to BSC later). It's not so much a game as a dressed up mining interface, but it is fun to see how far you can work your way up. You can earn NFT's like tools and minions by mining, and you can also stake Trillium tokens to go on "missions" where you lock your Trillium up for a set amount of time, and then receive a nice reward of Trillium when the job is over. There is also a vast ocean of NFT marketplaces to explore, the most recent banner I saw being a Street Fighter NFT collection.
You'll notice in Alien Worlds, that you have to select a plot of land, on a planet to mine. These plots of land are owned by individuals who receive a cut of your mining profits, usually anywhere from 5-20%. Sadly, these plots of land are extremely expensive, so prepare to bust out your wallet if you are thinking of becoming a real estate mogul.
Sometimes when using these apps you will get errors such as "billable cpu time is less than" blah blah blah. That means you need to stake more Wax, or wait for your computing access to regenerate over time, so you can continue to use the applications. A nice part of these is that they are web based so far and require no downloads other than the wallet itself. (I'm guilty of a little mining while at work in between projects!)
