Or is it something deeper, more spiritual, more human? Happiness is a subjective concept, it depends on each person and each circumstance. There is no magic formula or universal recipe to be happy, however, there is something that many studies and experts agree on: money is not happiness, but it imitates it very well (and it is not a banal or superficial joke).
We cannot deny that money influences happiness, even if it is in an indirect or relative way. Money is a means to achieve ends, not an end in itself, it is a social tool that reflects the material living conditions of human beings, it is an expression of the social relations that are established in each mode of production, because Fortunately or unfortunately, in many cases, we live in consumerist societies.

This consumerism is usually one of its main characteristics, which is possible thanks to the availability of cash or other means of acquisition.
Money, in this context, becomes a necessity because it is the instrument that allows access to the goods and services offered by the market, and which are supposed to satisfy the needs and desires of economic agents. Because money is also a symbol of social status and material well-being, so many people work longer hours and reduce their free time in order to earn more and consume more.
However, money ceases to be a luxury when consumption is associated with personal happiness, and when a dependency on it is created to maintain a certain standard of living. In consumer societies, advertising and marketing play a fundamental role in stimulating the desire to buy products and services, sometimes unnecessary or superfluous, creating false needs or expectations. Furthermore, planned obsolescence makes products obsolete or useless in a short time, forcing consumers to replace them with newer or better ones.
Living in a consumer society has its advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, it can favor economic growth, access to goods and services, general well-being and competition. On the other hand, it can generate environmental, social, psychological and ethical problems, such as pollution, inequality, indebtedness, dissatisfaction or loss of values.
Money can make life easier, cover basic needs, provide security and comfort, it allows you to access goods and services that increase well-being and satisfaction, it generates opportunities, freedom and autonomy. But money cannot buy love, friendship, health, inner peace, the meaning of life, it cannot fill the existential void, nor resolve personal conflicts, nor guarantee happiness, although many believe otherwise.
And it's very simple, happiness depends on other factors, beyond money, such as values, beliefs, attitudes, emotions, relationships. It depends on how we feel about ourselves and others, how we interpret and deal with what happens to us, how we contribute to the common good and human development.
Many consider that being happy without money is possible, although it is not always easy, because money can help improve the quality of life, but it is not the only factor that influences happiness. There are other things you can do to feel good about yourself and others, without spending much or no money, some examples:
?? Discover new activities that you are passionate about, reading, painting or playing sports. You can take advantage of free or cheap resources in your city, such as libraries, parks, and museums. Or you can learn something new on your own, using the internet or books. The important thing is to find something that motivates you and amuses you.
?? Surround yourself with people who fill you up, family, friends, sentimental couple. Love and friendship are fundamental to happiness, and they don't cost money. Spend time with the people who love you and make you feel good, share your joys and sorrows with them, support them and let them support you. If you are generous with others and help them where you can without expecting anything in return, you will feel more useful and loved.
The important thing is to have a positive attitude and enjoy the simple things in life. Money is not happiness (although it imitates it very well), but it is not unhappiness either, it is just a means to achieve some ends, but not the only one or the most important one.
