Where last time we branched out a little to discover a network specific wallet (Magma) build for the Tezos chain. This time we're venturing into the wilderness of the jungle to discover what meme fueled goodness is available to us on the Banano chain. That's right this time we're going to check out the Kalium wallet.

The Kailum wallet can be thought of as the potassium filled crazed younger sibling of the Natirum wallet used for Nano. Built back in 2019, Kalium is aesthetically much the same as its Nano counterpart. With the expected meme powered monkey twist. If by this stage in the article you're wondering what Banano is then I urge you to drop all of your rubbish Doge coins* and get a real meme coin. The great thing about Banano is it has the community at its heart, is fast and free to transfer and is freely distributed. You only need to look at coin info below and to check the charts to see why it hasn't been left behind during this bull run.

Main Screen
As always we'll begin our tour on the main screen of the wallet.
As you can see the home screen is nice and tidy with a core features we've come to expect:
- 1.) Made up mainly of the transaction history we also have:
- a.) Balance displayed in Fiat, BAN and BTC
- b.) With send and receive buttons at the bottom of the screen
- 2.) If we click on receive we're taken to the following:
- a.) Our main address and QR code
- b.) Options to copy/share the address as needed
- 3.) Also next to the main balance at the top right we can see our own personal CryptoMonKey. This is a graphical representation of our wallet and is unique to this address. As you can see from mine I'm a fan of single malt :)
Settings Screen
From the top left corner of the main screen (cog symbol) we have access to the bulk of the options for customizing our experience.
- 1.) The settings are split into three main sections
- a.) Account(s) details at the top
- b.) Followed by Preferences
- c.) Then wallet management
- 2.) In the accounts section we have access to the main wallet address (note clicking on main account in the menu also allows you to change the account name), otherwise the 3 dots gives you access to the following actions
- a.) We can swipe the addresses in this page to deactivate them
- b.) We can also add new additional accounts in case we want to have multiple address.
- 3.) Moving on to the preferences section our first available option is to set the fiat currency we wish to display funds in.
- 4.) Next on the preferences list is the language setting. Although well known for the international language of memes the Banano community also has various language specific areas in the Discord channels, as such this wallet caters to a wide range of languages
- 5.) Next up we have the themes section (possibly one of the stand out items for this wallet), more on this below.
- 6.) Finally for preferences we have access to the security settings, where we can set biometic and password options for the app.
- 7.) In the manage section the first option we have is for managing voting representatives. Banano maintains a Nano-like representative voting consensus mechanism, whereby you delegate your voting power to a representative who can vote on your behalf. The default for this wallet is the Kalium representative.
- 8.) Next up we have the ability to transfer paper wallets or distributed QR codes into our wallet at the click of a button. If you are hanging around the community in time for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, this will be how you can snag yourself some goodies!
- 9.) Then moving on we have the seed phrase for backing out our wallet. Banano uses a 24 word mnemonic phrase.....this is one tough Banano to crack!
- 10.) Finally, we have access to an address book where we can save address for later use. Note here the default again is includes and is the Kalium donations address.

As mentioned earlier there are multiple themes available for this wallet (5 including the main theme). These are as follows:

Final Thoughts
Although I've approached this from a simplistic angle don't be fooled. The Kalium wallet has be one of the smoothest, easiest and most intuitive wallets that I've had the pleasure to review. Having used this wallet myself for some time now I've never had any issues with it. The transactions are super fast anyway plus the well thought out design for this wallet make getting involved in the Banano world really easy for anyone. In my mind it hits the nail on the head for all users, the only additional thing that it would be cool to get added (though I wonder if it would be difficult to achieve) would be the ability to link a Wax Cloud wallet or maybe have a MonKey NFT picture book feature or something. So you could show off your NFTs as well as your BAN to folks.
