With a lot of the games in the ever-growing play-to-earn industry, a little something is missing. For me, the best games in my life have always had a strong focus on competition. As a child, they could make me scream and cry, throw a controller at the screen, or whoop and holler with the thrill of joyous victory.
Let's be honest. In a lot of these play-to-earn games, there's competition for the prize pool, but not enough head-to-head tooth-grinding, rage-inducing action between the players in terms of gameplay. I have learned to see the value in mining and farming games in the past few years, especially as NFTs have been added into the mix, but the thrill of competition is what has given Splinterlands the crown as my absolute favorite game for over three years running.
I'm here today to tell you about another gaming publisher on WAX that has had my attention for almost a year now. They're creating games that are strongly focused on direct competition between players, games that have addictive, app-style mass appeal, and games that are organized in an easy way that is sure to become more successful as time goes on. Let's talk about Clashdome.io.
Clashdome's Simple Charm
For a nice and refreshing change in the blockchain gaming space, Clashdome has games that are incredibly intuitive and easy to learn. Simple instruction and tips pages are offered, but I've found that these games can be dived straight into and easily figured out in a round or two. Learning to beat the competition however can take some serious focus and dedication to strategy.
2 Methods of Play
There are two basic ways to play Clashdome games: Tournament and Duel. Both work on a pay-per-play basis, which gives them all the charm of old-school arcade games that required you to slip a quarter in the coin slot. Tournaments are 24 hour events in which every entrant pays a 10 WAX entry fee, then competes for leaderboard prizes. For every entry, the prize pool increases, giving lots of players a chance to win back their entry fees (or more) every 24 hours. Duels are head-to-head matches in which 2 players are matched up asynchronously. Each player pays some WAX and plays for the maximum point total, and the winner is awarded the WAX entry fees of both entrants (minus a 5% house fee). In Duel matches, both players also earn LUDIO, the new in-game currency of Clashdome. LUDIO has some great utility in the games, and it's currently being distributed to Clashdome's most active players and followers.

I am very excited to see what the future holds for the LUDIO token as Clashdome continues to expand and deliver compelling play-to-earn casual competition games.

The team has also announced that full tokenomics will be established for LUDIO over the next couple months, including exclusive NFT sales, drops and rewards. I for one can hardly wait to see the ways that this token is integrated into the already awesome gameplay of the Clashdome games.
The Games
The Clashdome games may have an aesthetically pleasing appearance and smooth gameplay (like a multi-million download app), but they are not to be underestimated in terms of strategy and competition. You can jump in to kill some time and before you know it you've been playing for hours, desperately trying to defeat the competition and place in the daily tournament. 1 on 1 duels are excellent for practice, and you can always watch the plays of the top players to learn more tips and tricks. These games are addictive, so always keep an eye on your WAX balance because this is pay-to-play play-to-earn gaming at its finest.
Endless Siege - Tower Defense
I first discovered Endless Siege last year when it was the only game being offered on Clashdome. I instantly fell in love, spending hours of many days attempting to crack the top 5. I absolutely love tower defense style games, but unfortunately I'm just not that good. This game takes more time to play than the others, so be prepared for a long haul.
Candy Fiesta - Match 3
You'll be bouncing to the upbeat music and looking for combos, as if leaning closer to your screen somehow makes the game easier. It doesn't. This game looks fun and easy to a newcomer's eye, but once you start trying your skill in the daily tournament, you'll realize just how fierce the competition really is.
Templok - Puzzle
This Tetris style puzzle game gives a nice unique new spin to the old block puzzle. You form lines to make blocks disappear, but you must use the blocks as they come instead of being able to rotate them in any direction. Additionally, the blocks aren't affected by gravity (because the game takes place under the sea). This means that when you complete a line in any direction, all the other blocks stay exactly where they are, which keeps you on your toes strategy wise and ensures that you cannot plan too far ahead.
If you like strategy, competition and playing-to-earn, you should absolutely give Clashdome a try. It's awesome fun!
It wouldn't be a terrible idea to start stacking those LUDIO tokens ;) I've just got a good feeling!
