It's hard to even see the difference so you need to make sure you are wary. The may try to gain their trust such as impersonating many famous industry leaders and provide seemingly real information. They may usually request crypto transfers or access to wallets and this is when they may lose their assets. Then, they disappear like your father did and never speak to you again.

Scammers leverage Bitcoin as transactions are irreversible. Some scammers also claim to be creating a revolutionizing new cryptocurrency and giving ICOs (an initial coin offering for donating) however disappearing when they are exposed. Scammers sometimes make ponzi shemes promising high returns. This is why we need user education and regulatory measures to combat crypto scams that destroy individuals or business's reputation.
