The ABC in Explaining Crypto to Old People

Do repost and rate:

Have you ever bought potatoes with crypto? Nope...?! Have you bought anything with crypto?!...

Chances are that a huge percentage of people that are in crypto have never used it as an exchange currency. Most of us have entered this space for the sake of "easy money" making and got caught in the fundamentals... At least that's the case for me.

But, how do you explain crypto to old individuals?

Well, first of all, old doesn't necessarily mean dated. And second, not all the old people that you might know will ever be interested in something like cryptocurrency. My long-time defunct good uncle would be someone who asks such questions though.

I still remember that he was asking me back in the early 2000's what a computer was and how the internet works... Imagine how hard it was to explain and detail how these things work to an old guy who has used just the radio for most of his life.

He was hearing about such things on the radio at that time and got interested. Computers and having an internet connection to a computer are not anything fancy anymore. Most of the old folks already own smartphones, that making crypto the new fancy trend of the ever-evolving technology progress.

The first thing that comes to my mind when explaining what crypto is to such people asking me about it, is that it is not money. No, crypto is not money. The concept of money is flawed from its inception imo and it's the main reason why such huge discrepancies between certain classes exist in the first place.

Crypto is like cement, but it's not the house that that cement is used for. Most of us take it as the final frontier of what future cash could be, but I would argue that. The way I see it, crypto opens the doors to a whole new world, not just for a new financial system.

Crypto is not a bank... It was designed to disrupt the banking system, but it's not a new type of bank. Banks imply that there's an entity responsible for anything happening in and with the bank at any time. There's no such thing applying for crypto. It is more like a self-sustaining environment where anyone can participate.

Currently, @blocktrades is the largest account on Hive by the amount of HIVE held, but at any time anyone can come with a greater stake and become the largest whale around here. It doesn't work the same way in the banking system and banks don't really have much freedom of choice.

I highly disagree with people saying that crypto is the new money. It's much more than that. As a matter of fact, as said in the introduction, most of us don't even use it as such.

Is it the new internet, though? Definitely not, cuz it wouldn't exist without the internet, but at the same time, the internet would become such a digital prison, sooner than most can imagine if it wasn't for crypto.

Long story short, crypto is the oxygen for a new digital era. An era that's designed to serve the people and made by the people. It doesn't necessarily have to be "a fair place", cuz there are always gonna be hacks like the recent BINANCE Chain one and rug pulls such as LUNA, but these events are nothing more but a reflection of the people living in this world.

This thing is not going to change the people, but it has the ability to exponentially enhance our capabilities. What do you think?
