Phishing

Phishing is a crime that tricks victims into sharing sensitive information such as passwords and credit card numbers. As in the sport of fishing ("fishing" in English), there are different ways to get the victim to take the hook, but there is a more common phishing tactic: The victim receives an email or text message that imitates (or "falsifies") a person or organization you trust, such as a colleague, banking institution or government office. The email or message contains information intended to scare the victim, with a request to visit a website and take immediate action to avoid negative consequences. If the user "takes the hook" and clicks on the link in the message, they are directed to an imitation of a legitimate website. At this point, the user is prompted to log in by entering their credentials: username and password. If the user is naive enough to execute the request, the information entered will be passed on to the criminal who can use it to steal identities, intercept access to bank accounts and sell personal information on the black market.
