Opera has announced a new feature that allows its users to access decentralized websites.

According to a Cointelegraph report, the popular web browser is making this possible via a partnership with a tech firm, Unstoppable Domains. The firm’s .crypto domain extension which is now integrated with Opera will allow users to easily browse decentralized web pages and also allow crypto payments. Unstoppable Domains is backed by Bitcoin proponent, Tim Draper.

With decentralized websites, there are no middle men in form of registrar companies as is obtainable with regular websites. Instead, the owner of a blockchain domain is in full control, with all of the website’s pages hosted by peer-to-peer networks. This way, problems that may arise from censorship are almost completely eliminated.

Unstoppable Domains further explained to Cointelegraph:

“Just as with the current web, if users are facing those types of issues they would need to use VPNs or a similar tool. Decentralized websites solve a user’s ability to publish — it’s on the publishing side rather than on the viewing side. Right now, you can’t publish using a traditional domain registrar if you’re in a place that is limiting free speech. Whereas, with decentralized website tools, you could. So it’s about the publishing and not the viewing.”

In addition to the development, Unstoppable Domains has launched its own blockchain browser  for easy access to decentralized websites.

In October 2019, Opera announced it will allow users send and receive crypto directly through the browser.
