Owners of LEDGER wallets whose personal information was compromised in the Jun. 2020 leak have begun receiving threats from malicious actors who hold the information.
- One Reddit users, Cryptohomie, said that his father had received an email from one of the attackers, threatening to share a lot of information with “local thieves” if a ransom of 0.3 BTC/10 ETH was not offered in 24 hours
- The two blackmailers are operating under the names of Darrin Burlew and Denni Hornig, as confirmed by other victims
- Over 20,000 users saw their personal information, including names, numbers and addresses, compromised in a major data breach that occurred in Jun. and Jul. 2020,
- Approximately 270,000 people had had their addresses compromised, with over 1 million having their emails exposed
- The breach was followed by a phishing scam, and both of these developments dealt Ledger’s reputation a blow -- which announced on Jan. 13 that the data of 20,000 more users had been compromised through Shopify
- Ledger has put a bounty of 10 BTC on the scammers and is working with Chainalysis to track them
