A Melbourne woman charged with stealing an erroneous restitution of $10.5 million in cryptocurrency has been released on bail while awaiting trial, despite claims she allegedly tried to flee the country.

Thevamanogari Manivel and his partner Jatinder Singh were sentenced to a trial on robbery and other charges. In May 2021, CRYPTO.COM intended to refund Mannivel $100, but they mistakenly transferred her $10.47million.

The company only noticed the error in December 2021 during an audit which paid Hollywood Matt Damon to feature in a Super Bowl commercial with the slogan "fortune favors the brave” the fortune was accidentally transferred to Melbourne women Thevamanogari Manivel, by an employee in Bulgaria.

The employee entered the wrong numbers in an Excel spreadsheet, and was sent to the payment provider in Australia, who then process it and transferred the money to Manivel bank account.

Manivel has pleaded not guilty to three charges, stealing from the Commonwealth Bank by withdrawing the money and trying to by air leave the country with $11,000 cash to Malaysia, was arrested at Melbourne airport in March.

Most of the money has been recovered, but about $3 million still remains, and a case is still undergoing to freeze the properties and recover money from Manivel's relatives.

From this news we all have a lesson to learn, money sent to your bank account, and you are not sure about it. Try and contact who sent the money to you before spending the money. I believe we will not fall a victim to case like this.
