Coinbase Requests Gov't IDs from US Customers

A few people I know have received an [Action required] e-mail from Coinbase, requesting that a government-issued photo ID be submitted by December 16, 2023 or else be limited to withdrawals only. So, it would seem that going forward if you want to trade on Coinbase, you will now be carded.

The company cites the "need to comply with financial regulations" as the reasoning for such a request. This seems to be the path forward with more and more exchanges requesting government IDs. Personally, I would have some privacy concerns but the people in charge of running the business of exchanges are doing everything possible to remain in compliance with lawmakers. If this means following KYC requirements, they will do it so long as operations are able to continue...even if it means perhaps pissing off and losing some customers.
