Binance spends $200 000 on a security company

The cryptocurrency exchange BINANCE paid $ 200,000 to a group of investigators to help catch the hackers behind the March 2018 attempt to hack the platform.

Users who used API keys to synchronize with trading bots then fell victim to unauthorized transactions. Cybercriminals obtained the data through a phishing version of the Binance website, exchange officials said.

Shortly after the attack, Binance announced a $ 250,000 reward for information about the hackers. The platform promised another $ 10 million in aid to prevent such incidents.

That same month, a group of investigators presented a detailed report on the identity of one of the hackers and the details of the attack.

Law enforcement suspects two people of organizing the attack. Binance paid $ 200,000 to help catch the hackers. The company will transfer the remaining $ 50,000 after their arrest. Binance noted that the security service of the stock exchange is constantly working to prevent threats in the cryptocurrency space.

In September 2019, Binance helped London police investigate a ? 41.6 million ($ 51.2 million) fraud. In August 2020, the Department of Cyberpolice of Ukraine noted the assistance of cryptocurrency in the capture of three people involved in the laundering of $ 42 million through cryptocurrencies.

As a reminder, in November, Binance's security service announced the return of $ 345,000 stolen from users of the Wine Swap platform.
