Hey ya'll just a heads up. A new Malware is spreading across the Globe and it's after your precious Keys!

The Be Your Own Bank is why most of us are in crypto and this is exactly what brings many users to the market - there is no dependency on a bank or any other third party. However, this freedom also comes with some risks.

A short breakdown for the newbies!

One of them is keeping your own private key. These private keys grant access to the cryptocurrencies on a wallet. That is why the private keys must always be well-secured and stored in places where only the owner has access to them.

Most users take this responsibility very seriously - after all, it's about hard cash. Nevertheless, there are always fraudsters who try to take users out of their money, and there are countless possibilities of doing that.

The spread of malware is one of them

Panda Stealer is its name! Why they'd call it that I have no clue but alas here we are and that's what it's called.

The scammers send spam mails to innumerable e-mail addresses. Germany, Japan, Australia, and the USA are the most affected as of now. The mails are designed so that the recipients click on an Excel file (.xls or .xlsm) that can be found in the attachment.

It is this file that harbors the malware. After opening, the malware embeds itself in the corresponding device and reads sensitive user data such as the private keys of your cryptos

In addition to crypto-specific data, other data such as cookies, passwords, and credit card information are also collected and stored. To prevent tracing, a virtual private network (VPN) was probably rented and infected.

More scams

In the crypto sector, there are repeated attacks by fraudsters. At the end of February, there was a big hack on the DeFi platform Furucombo. The hackers were able to gain 14 million dollars through an exploit!!

There was also some news last year that scammers had stolen money. Our lovely exchange, KuCoin, has also fallen victim to these hackers. There were 150 million US dollars were seized. BUT there is good news! Overall, according to analyzes, crypto crime has fallen by 60%.

Thank your for reading and stay safe out there, Cheers!
