What's with "my luck"?

No matter how often I hear people complain about their misfortunes and unbelievable streaks of bad luck, (myself included btw) it still amazes me how often we believe we are apart of some splinter cell highly selective group of elite unlucky people. I mean that's pretty much the gist of that saying right?

Playing poker and got two-outed on the river? 'It's not you who got lucky, it's just my bad luck bro'. Barcelona on a winning streak so placed a bet on them for the next match? 'Oh wow they actually lost now, must be my luck'. Bought Bitcoin at 60K in 2021? 'D*** it was rising for literally months till I bought it, I can't believe my luck'.

These are just some examples loosely based on real events I happened to witness over the years. Now I myself also complained about ''my luck'' a lot in the past, well, I still do on occasion but I quit believing in it. What I mean by that is I came to the conclusion we all get dealt bad hands every now and then, but after a while it should be our experience and logical thinking that should make us take the least possible risk at precisely those unfortunate times.

Got two-outed on the river? Well, maybe you shouldn't have gone all-in with a mediocre hand that a huge range of hands could beat. Bet on Barcelona when they are playing against another top team competing for the title? Well yeah, that's why gambling never works for anyone, the odds were higher because the risk of them losing were higher no matter their winning streak. Made a FOMO investment on the way up while ignoring Bitcoin as it broke past its previous ATH of 20K? What did you expect, that it would increase forever? If you made a small investment don't worry just DCA, if you went all in, then it really is not a matter of ''your luck'', but your inability to think strategically in order to plan ahead and consider the long run.

I know it's bordering towards hindsight excellence, but what I'm trying to say is use your brain. You can't stop bad luck and yes it truly does exist, but don't become a victim and twice shy because you were bitten once. Learn from the past and make your luck happen for you by minimizing the liabilities. I heard this saying a while back that relates to this, it went something like ''some truly want it to happen, some keep hoping and wishing for it to happen, others make it happen.''

Now if you put a huge chunk of your money in e.g. Luna at 0.1 cent when it spiraled to death all the way from 80 Dollars, you were not ''unlucky'', you took an extreme risk and it just didn't pay off. I sort of did this but with Bitcoin in 2019. I might not have fully understood it back in the day and might have thought I was ''unlucky'' to not have any in 2018, but then I decided to give it another go and give my luck another try. I got bitten yes, but then I dared to give it another try. I used my sound reasoning, waited for it to settle around the 3/4K line and then invested what I could afford to lose. Now there was of course always the possibility it could crash further down to like 1K, but I thought to myself that if that happens then I at least proved to everyone that I in fact am apart of that elite unlucky group of people.??
