So there I was, hunched over the porcelain bowl heaving colorful projectiles from my mouth.
“That wasn’t so bad” I thought.
Then my belly started rumbling but not of hunger.
I’ve never evacuated so much brown hell into a toilet before.
After limping back to my bed after a midnight snack of pepto bismol tablets and water, I tried to get some rest.
Then the brown and green hell happened again, this time simultaneously from the front and backend. I was like a double barreled exorcist.
I must have left pieces of lung and intestine in that hotel bathroom
The cleaning lady and I couldn’t make direct eye contact since that day.
I made sure to have left a nice tip for her suffering.
No matter how bad things are, they can always get worse before they get better again.
I even had to cancel a date with a cute tourist. She promptly ghosted me after I apologized.
Sigh, things never work out the way you planned. The old expression when it rains it pours certainly applied in that situation.
Panda you are disgusting, what does this have anything to do with crypto?!?
Well pull up a chair and let ol’ panda tell you a tale of crypto and travel.
If this is your first crypto winter, “congratulations”! Consider this an expensive initiation.
Crypto and traveling to developing countries requires an open mind and a sense of adventure. Sure we can do all the tip planning we want, but once we embark on our journey can we truly be certain that everything will go according to plan?
In 2020, we were mentally conditioned by social media influencers peddling “stock to flow” and “supercycle” theories to expect great things in the crypto markets. In late 2021 it looked like the markets would indeed have a “blow off” top.
Fast forward to mid-2022, now we have a disillusioned and struggling community.
How the mighty have fallen.
Look at how pathetic these “relief” rallies are. What were once virile and girthy pumps have now shriveled into flimsy and flaccid “uptrends”. If you blink you’ll probably miss them.
You might be done with crypto winter, but crypto winter isn’t done with you.
Bitcoin is desperately trying to cling to $20,000 while Ethereum is flopping around the $1,000 level like a dying fish on land.
Not that many people were prepared for the bears to ransack the markets like this. Even well capitalized funds were caught asleep at the wheel! Now they are not so well capitalized.
Just like with crypto, trips can be delayed or even cancelled. Unexpected events can force us to think on our feet to develop alternate plans.
Like a fart dissipating in a strong gale, this too will pass. You will bounce back stronger and you will be better prepared for the next cycle. You will steel yourself against timewasting scams and focus intently on value producing digital assets.
Don’t be scared away by setbacks, this will teach resiliency and develop grit.
Tough times make you better prepared for the next time opportunity rolls around.
My first Mexico City trip was upsetting because it was half ruined by food poisoning.
On my second trip to Mexico City back I spent time with this incredible lady (instead of the bathroom) and enjoyed what the city had to offer.
I had learnt from my first trip and was even more careful with my food and drink this time around.
This time the pantry was packed with Gatorade and tummy medicine from the local in case Montezuma wanted a rematch. As luck would have it, nothing bad happened. Maybe my belly got used to the local bacteria from my first bout.
In any event, whenever you go on an adventure in real life or digitally you need to expect bumps in the road and make plans for detours.
Remember, in life poop happens (in my case quite literally) but enjoy the process and learn from it!
