Watching Crypto News Can Be Annoying

You heard it right, folks. Watching crypto news can be annoying and I am not talking about Elon Musk’s senseless statement about Bitcoin. The guy appears to be ill-informed regarding the environmental impact of Bitcoin transactions nowadays. But this is another topic that shall be discussed on a different lens.

Google It in Bing!

Such a hilarious take on browsing using Bing from a Microsoft dude on a seminar I attended back in the day when Bitcoin was just a few hundred USD. Between the two, I gravitated towards Google. Although the presence of ads was there, it wasn’t as annoying as it is today. I used to be a Yahoo guy years earlier by the way.

We Don't Have Many Choices Don't We?

Product-centric, customer-centric and other buzzwords are all part of the digital consumerism that exists today. What is the connection with this topic you may ask? It boils down to the annoyances of watching your favorite crypto analysis and news with tons of ads that pop up on YouTube. I may be too harsh on these and forget that certain channels get their income from these “annoying” ads. A single ad at the beginning of the video is forgivable, but three in a row is too much. Several more smack in the middle of an exciting discussion and some more towards the end of the video. One may begin to wonder if these advertisers contribute to the channel or just a moneymaking scheme from YouTube, the company. Then I remembered the news of Google’s acquisition of YouTube a few years before Nakamoto launched his Bitcoin and the blockchain technology. I needed a smack on the head to realize the connection.

In Search of a Better Alternative

People may be driven out of something when they had too much. In search of something better, I stumbled upon an ad from a relatively new browser based on a Google search engine. It promises to be faster, more secure, and private. One of its features is its ad-blocking ability so I searched some technical reviews. Its name, Brave, and the lion icon looked cool so I gave it a try. True to its claims, it was indeed fast, secure, and effectively blocks ads. My days of ad-laden video watching are finally over. And I never looked back.

I tend to act against the grain. Sometimes, I fail but more often I succeed in doing so. I guess we have to be “brave” to stand our ground.
