The Crypto_Gam3r Blog: New Reward Cards Tracker Week 2

Greetings Gamers!

We have now had a full week since the release of the new rewards cards in Splinterlands. As predicated in my original post, as these cards are acquired through reward chests, and the excitement of having new cards in the game dies down, the prices of the cards have dropped dramatically. Lets take a look.

Common Cards:

From an initial average of $0.49, the common cards have dropped to being the cheapest available in the market, down to an average of $0.12. The highest value card, Pelacor Mercenary, is down 80% in one week. Keep in mind that the cheapest card in market a few weeks ago, typically Chain Spinner, was around $0.29. Overall, the whole market value per card is down, perhaps caused by the influx of these new reward cards.

Rare Cards:

Rare cards are down from an initial market value of $2.03 to $0.79, a drop of 61%. Venari Wavesmith remains the highest valued card in the group, only dropping value by 17% and still selling for way higher than the other cards in the group at $2.89. Venari Crystalsmith has seen the biggest drop in value, down 80% in one week.

Epic Cards:

Eric cards have dropped from an initial average of $7.69 down to $1.71. Interesting point here is that a rare card, Venari Wavesmith, has been selling higher than all the epic cards in this group for the last 5 days. The group is down 77%.

Legendary Cards:

Finally, legendary cards are down from an initial average value of $48.72 per card, to an average value per card of $15.79. This makes the group down 67% for the week. Even with the price drop, obtaining any of these cards through reward chests is a pleasant surprise for anyone, a surprise I have unfortunately not yet experienced.

Conclusion:

So, there we have it. As predicted the high mint number of these new rewards cards has caused them to drastically decrease in value very quickly. My initial strategy of selling these cards as soon as I obtain them has been the right call at this point. My initial analysis was that if these cards are 20x more abundant than cards of the same rarity, they will therefore be 20x less valuable, leaving them around $0.015 for the common cards, and though they have not hit that price yet, they are trending that direction quickly. I hope everyone took my advice and has been selling them off as they are acquired.

My long term thoughts on these cards are the same as the previous cards. Eventually, I believe they will rise in value. As the weeks and months go on, all these cards will be in circulation, they will then be combined to make higher level cards, making them more scarce. As years go on new series of cards will be released, and the only way to get these will be to buy then from other players in the market. So, even though I don't think we've seen the basement prices for these cards just yet, long term I am still very optimistic on them and all cards in the game for that matter.

Another interesting development has been the drop in value for all cards. I had read a lot of posts theorizing that the release of the new rewards cards would have an instant impact and increase the value of the older rewards cards. This has not happened, in fact they have all dropped in value considerably as well. But once again, I think this is only a temporarily drop and will be something I watch moving forward.
