A relatively under-looked sector has sprung to life as the alts make a run along with BTC and ETH. Telecom crypto projects are surging including Helium, DENT and Telcoin.
Their value props differ from each other, but they all aim to bring blockchain efficiencies to the telecommunications market including smart phone payment systems to the most ambitious, a decentralized, user-run, global 5G network.
Here's a quick rundown of the top four currently traded on exchanges and one coming soon to the Cardano blockchain.

is adding 5G to their focus. they are essentially building a decentralized network of user-run hotspots around the world. The token is up 14% in 24hrs. CoinBureau has a out on the project as well. Big question though is how users with smartphones would be able to subscribe to their service and buy the required usage credits (derived from the HNT token).
is aiming to get the unbanked with smartphones access to finance. Backed by some impressive funders including Jack Dorsey, DeutcheTelecom, and Coinbase, among others. It's had a rough few days (down about 3% over the week) while the rest of the market had found its wings.
, based in Tokyo, Japan, ocuses on financial services for mobile users (mostly direct mobile payments). TEL's price has climbed almost 9% in the last 24 hrs. Back in July they hired Kraken exchange's now former head of development.
is a digital mobile company that according to CoinMarketCap has 25 million customers across 140 countries. It’s price appreciated over 35% in the last week with a recent drop over 24hrs at time of writing.

It’s still a bit unclear how any of these projects can compete with major global players. If they offer better service, at a cheaper price (with some decent customer service), they might have a fighting chance.
