Splinterlands - Battle Library Two - “I love it when a plan comes together"

Do repost and rate:

The immortal words of Hannibal Smith,  "I love it when a plan comes together" are an apt choice in SPLINTERLANDS since one of the key skills (apart from being able to acquire the best cards) is being able analyze the opponent to counter what you think they'll be doing.

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_3e518a3506cc4aabfc3164d058b41d17&ref=silver-edge The rules that applied to this battle were:

- Mana cap of 18 - a medium cap.  Could still face some big cards but it's less likely.

- Water/Fire/Death only

- Target Practice - All magic/ranged monsters have the snipe ability (hit first target that is magic/ranged/no attack that is not in first slot)

Looking at my opponents recent battles he seemed to like water so given the rules & the splinters available I was expecting a nasty Alric magic assault!

The lineups were set up as follows:

I went with:

Summoner - Owster Rotwell - As I expected an Alric team, Owster should work well giving all my team magic reflect!

Haunted Spirit in first slot - for the solid life (seven) and his heal ability.

Undead Priest in second slot - for his weaken ability and to absorb some snipe shots

Creeping Ooze in third slot - for his slow ability and to further absorb snipe shots.  In addition at only One mana he filled out the team.

Ancient Lich in last slot - for his life leech ability, strong magic attack.  In last slot as he'd be fairly safe vs an Alric team and could get some extra tankiness before he got hit.

The opponent went with:

Summoner - Alric - not a surprise - I picked it!! The plan could come together nicely.

Cocatrice in first slot - a low mana card but just there to absorb a shot, hopefully draw out a miss.  Using him as a tank means more room for damage dealers.

Dwarven Wizard in second slot - three life and with Alric two magic attack - Nice!

Venari Wavesmith in third slot - three life and with Alric two magic attack but thats not all, the amazing protect ability to give plus 2 shield to the team.

Enchanted Pixie and Ice Pixie in the last two slots to fill out the team with (with Alric) two two magic attack damage dealers.

This was what I was hoping for, the plan definitely coming together - Enchanted Pixie and Ice Pixie will kill themselves with one shot no matter who they hit thanks to reflect.  With Ancient Lich's high three magic attack he should snipre out the Wizard and the Wavesmith quite easily.  Yup this should work nicely.

And here's how the battle went:

Turn One - Ice Pixie is quick and and snipes at the undead priest - suicide by reflect.  Cocatrice hits Haunted Spirit who heals up and hits back removing the Cocatrice's armor.  Ancient Lich snipes out the Dwarven Wizard killing it and upping his life to four.  Venari Wavesmith snipes the Undead Priest killing him and survives the reflect with one life left.  Enchanted Pixie finishes the round with a suicide shot on the Ooze.  Kills the Ooze but dies in the process.  I'm left with a full health Haunted Spirit and a four life Ancient Lich to his two life Cocatrice and Two life Venari Wavesmith.

Turn two - Cocatrice hits Haunted Spirit, Venari Wavesmith snipes Ancient Lich and reduces the Lich to Two life and himself to one life.  Now its my turn.  Haunted Spirit takes out the Cocatrice and Ancient Lich delivers the coup-de-grace and finishes off the Venari Wavesmith.

So overall an easy win with a plan that came together nicely.  As predicted he used Alric and Magic and I countered with Owster and Reflect.  Haunted Spirit makes a solid tank and was not going to be hit due to the Snipe rules and the Ancient Lich had time to beef up and kill some of the opposition thanks to being protected by the Ooze and Undead Priest.

Just goes to show, while Alric and Magic can be tough to beat, if you plan for it it can be countered!

Hope you enjoyed the battle and if you found it interesting and are not into Splinterlands yet give it a go:
