Litecoin is a peer-to-peer Internet currency that allows instant and almost zero cost payments for anyone in the world. Litecoin is a fully decentralized open source global payment network with no central authority.
Created in October 2011 by Charliee Lee. It shares the same Bitcoin code with some differences, so for a long time it has been called cryptocurrency silver.
Litecoin Fuoundation, a Singapore-registered non-profit organization responsible for maintaining the active development of the cryptocurrency and keeping the community active, is behind it. Among several partnerships signed, the most important, in 2018 the Foundation acquired almost 10% of the German bank WEG in partnership with the payment platform TokenPay.
Update
The improvement proposal was established in 2019 is in the final phase that is the implementation of the Miblewimble Extension Block (MWEB) with the objective of improving fungibility and privacy.
Mimblewimble (MW) is a protocol created by the anonymous figure "Tom Elvis Judesor". MW is a combination of different technologies, including, but not limited to, " Confidential Transactions " (hides transaction values) and " CoinJoin " (a "currency mixer"). Some of these concepts were developed and conceptualized by Bitcoin contributors such as Gregory Maxwell, Adam Back and Andrew Poelstra.
