Metamask Crash Course - Part 1

Download the Metamask browser extension for an easy way to send or receive and interact with DEX’s or other apps within Crypto. Your Ethereum and tokens will be 100% safe and secure.

…Just don’t lose those private keys.

Install Steps:

I would recommend going with a browser setup before trying to add this to your iOS or Android, it is easier to explore.

1. Click Install

2. Click Add to BRAVE (Or whichever browser)

3. Add Extension

4. Get Started

Wallet Creation:

1. Create a wallet

2. Select a choice for data privacy

3. Set a memorable password and write it down, saving it in a safe place. I treat every password as though it will be required for re-initialization.

   When doing more advanced actions, you will likely save JSON wallet files which REQUIRE the original password to decrypt. Even though we may not need it, documentation of all passwords and backups is CRUCIAL.

4. Secret Backup Phrase - Read this page entirely. There is no tech support hotline with METAMASK or other crypto platforms. (You are taking your power back from third parties, therefore, this responsibility is also yours.)

5. Determine appropriate levels of security, and read up on various methods to keep these backups secure. ( DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING: Saving backups in the cloud, with a picture, screen shot, and others are all very bad ideas which open up tremendous liability now and in the future.)

3. Begin exploring Metamask. Try these items below:

   • Rename the wallet

   • Create an extra wallet address

   • Connect to a test network

   • Add a custom token.

Obviously in order to use the wallet to send, you will need to have some assets to play with. In our Metamask Crash Course - Deux, we will get you some free assets to practice a transaction or two.

By the end of the next crash course, you will be ready to make a trade and even use the Decentralized Exchange of your choice.

If you have not already, get the process started for an exchange account like Gemini or Kraken in order to exchange paper currency for cryptocurrency.

I also use Ledger Nano S to secure my assets. Hardware wallets can be pricey, so if you’re dabbling and just getting your feet wet, the Metamask wallet is perfectly sufficient.

Final Thoughts

It costs nothing to have an exchange account ready and linked for funds, or to have Metamask set up.
