If you are a user of the BRAVE Browser like I am you might have wondered what was up with your recent BAT distribution. Many many people have commented on how they have earned far more than they were estimated to be getting according to the browser. Yesterday when mine became available I was another one whose rewards shocked me because of how high they were.
In February my estimated earners were right around 1 BAT on one computer and 1.25 BAT on the other. My rewards though were 4.5 BAT and 4.75 BAT respectively! This was a huge increase and was something I was ecstatic to see. One thing though stick out to me and that was why would BAT be increasing their distribution when the browser has been growing in usage? It was economical and really did not make any sense.
Seeing others also have an increase in their payout made me realize that this wasn't an isolated incident so something had changed. I searched their blog and Twitter feeds to see if there was some announcement about a boost for some reason but did not find anything. Then it finally hit me like a ton of bricks. The price of BAT had stabilized last year for a long time in the $0.90-$1.00 range and so the estimates were always really accurate.
That has not been the case this year as crypto went into a massive reversal as seen with the price of Bitcoin and Ethereum. Since I have my BAT sent straight to my Gemini Wallet where I put it into the Earn section where it gains 1.01% APY I do not have to pay any gas fees for this. I had not really paid attention to the price since I am just HODLing my earned BAT. Looking at it though you see that the price has fallen roughly 40% to in the low $0.60 to mid $0.60 range. With this price fall, the Brave Team upped the amount of BAT distributed which makes a ton of sense.
Since this month has started I have also realized that the estimated BAT earned seems much more reflective of the number of ads have seen with the amount I have used my computer. To me, this proves that the Team behind Brave is doing what they need to do to make sure that the amount of ad revenue they receive is correctly returned to those who have opted in for BAT. The team could have just kept on paying the little bit that was expected however they have adjusted the amount of BAT which is a fantastic sign for not only BAT but the browser and project as a whole!
