Anyways let's get to the content. I say that a lot don't I? I found a post on the BC Game forum advising users on a method to level up very fast. Simply deposit 100$ into your balance and choose a game with a 1% house edge, set your payout to the absolute minimum, and start max-betting. If you're a regular reader, you know I'm a big fan of using charts, all of which I make myself during the research phase of writing my How To Gamble For A Living series, and today will be no exception.
Let's run that method with "100" in balance and see what happens. When set to minimum payout your chances of winning are 98% and your payout is 1.0102x. That means that for every 100 dollar bet you win you'll increase your balance by 1.02$. One loss and it's all gone. However you're rewarded with 100EXP towards your level every bet - win or lose. Here's what happened on the first try.
Now that's not normal. That's just plain unlucky to the max, but as if to illustrate the catastrophic failure of such a method that was legitimately the result of one single minimum risk bet on dice.
I'll run a few more graphs and show what this method looks like on average.
Again, massively unlucky. Another.
There you have it, a "good run". By a good run I'm referring to the fact that it took a surprisingly large amount of bets to fail. Chart number 3 is well against the odds, and although you would only have lost 22.48$ [as well as potentially even made a 76.50$ profit had you not pushed your luck even further beyond the odds and stopped before the failure] it still shows that the method is high risk.
The casino makes a lot more when you bet at so-called "low risk" with a high wager. That's why they incentivise you to do so. If you found yourself looking at the above graph you might even say to yourself "well it won 76 times out of 77, I only lost once, I only need to repeat that with another hundred dollars 20 or so times". And you'd be correct, the graph would correct itself should you get lucky enough. But you're in dangerous territory and your chances of recovery are small. And my next graph will tell you why.
When you bet just to bet, and not to win, you can expect this.
I see many gambling blogs out there recommending silly methods like the Martingale, or variations of this kind of low risk betting. They are outdated strategies that make no mathematical sense. As a gambling fan, a probabilities nerd, and a self declared enemy of the casino, I only want others to win. Hence, I'll point out when someone recommends a garbage strategy. I care about the success of my readers, and if any of you happen to join one of these casinos I'll be sure to send a tip your way next time I'm grinding.
