CTP Switching To A Linear Rewards Curve - When Is Hive Going To Follow Suit?

Do repost and rate:

As per their announcement made last night, the CTP token has changed to a linear curation curve effective immediately. This is something I have been campaigning for ever since I got involved with the CTP Swarm and I'm really happy to see it finally come to fruition. What this means is that from now on all curation rewards will be split between the author and the curator, no matter when the vote took place, no matter how many other votes there have been before or after that vote.

This change will have a multitude of positive effects for CTPtalk and should help propel an already amazing token to new heights. LeoFinance was the first tribe (that I know off) switching to a linear curation curve and it has worked wonders for that community. The most obvious advantage of having a linear curation curve is that you can now vote any content at any time you want within the 7 days voting window without ever missing out on any of your rewards. Prior to this change, it was best to vote accounts that you know will receive many votes right before all the other votes come in, thus giving you the highest percentage in curation rewards possible. Actually, the ideal play would have probably been to figure out which accounts @ctpsb is voting regularly and just set an auto vote for these accounts at the 4 minute mark.

Now auto votes aren't bad in general. I mean I'm grateful for everybody who has set an auto vote for me because that way I know that I'll receive at least some rewards for the time I invest to write my articles. But the truth is, auto votes usually mean that the people auto voting your content don't actually read it. Now the rewards are obviously nice and all, but I write my articles because I want to get read. Without the need for early votes on the right accounts, the need for auto votes diminishes as well. Ever since LeoFinance moved to a linear rewards curve, I removed all auto votes I had for the tribe, instead trying to only vote articles I've actually read and enjoyed.

This alone will help to improve the already pretty impressive level of interaction on CTPtalk. That's only going to get amplified by the fact that the change makes voting comments a lot more viable as well. With the conventional rewards curve, you are effectively wasting a lot of potential rewards by voting on a comment. Most of the time, you are going to be the only person voting on a comment, thus earning you a lot less rewards than what you would have gotten from voting (early) on an article. With the new system, you can vote a comment when ever you like and receive exactly the same rewards as you would have gotten from any other article (or comment).

On LeoFinance, this lead to a massive increase in both votes on comments and consequentially comments in general, really getting a lot more engagement going. Me and many others have made it a habit to give a (at least small) vote for all comments that we receive and appreciate. Initially, I was a bit concerned to see more meaningless comments like "Nice", "Great article", and the like coming from this but really, this has never been an issue. These comments just get ignored and the ones posting them loose interest pretty quick. Most people actually take the time to leave meaningful replies, thus enhancing the experience both for the author and other readers.

With this change, the two arguably most successful tribes on Hive have switched to a linear rewards curve and one can only wonder when and if Hive is finally going to follow suite. To be honest here, I never liked the curation rewards system used by Hive. It felt counter intuitive, almost punishing for those that actually took the time to do manual curation. By the time I'm done watching a taskmaster4450 video, all the auto votes will already be in. So I either set an auto vote myself or just accept that I will get less rewards for actually taking the time to do manual curation. There are some changes already taking place but honestly, I don't see the point to have anything other than a strictly linear rewards curve.

Either way, I expect to see even more and faster growth coming to CTPtalk with this change and I hear there's a lot more in store for us still. So if you are not involved with the CTP Swarm yet, now would be the perfect time to get in and join the fun!

And that's all from me for today, thank you all for reading and see you next time!
