Crypto Wallets - Form and Function

Do repost and rate:

The basis of security for how and where we hold our crypto what this is not is a case of one size fits all. A variety of coins and how they are made from different algorithms to the systems they come from means you will need more than one wallet. Up and coming coins, long successful ones, long hodl* and between all of them, you will need multiple areas to keep all of that straight.

(Hodl is shorthand for holding those who will be on their coin shares for a longer time for various reasons, with one of them being profit and another is just for secrecy.)

There is no one size fit all style option. All of the options can seem complicated, but you will need a couple to move coins as needed online.

We can further split it down to software and hardware and what coins we need them to carry. Software wallets are more like the websites and programs you interact with that you hold your crypto at. I find if you are just getting started in the realm of cryptocurrency. I can give some of my experience, but it does not take long to type "crypto wallet" program and see what comes up.

Yes, even I did it. This was a pic from my screen as I typed this up. Seriously, look at a couple of articles, get some info and find one you would be happy to start with. Poke around with it and get comfortable seeing each of the addresses that you need to do all you need to do. Send means you are using that address to send it out, and when you put the receiving address down, you use that one to get it.

Breaking down wallets and hardware is what it says on the tin. It is physical, something you can use your meat mittens and work with, often plugged in through something. The good thing about all of this is they usually can handle a good number of the most popular coins. They are hard to hack. Their connection to power being something that can throw a wrinkle into any would be hackers' plans on top of the rest of the security layers. A hardware wallet is an excellent edition and great when you have some money to put in it. Still, if you are learning and have very little to use it for, then a software one would be easier.

Software is what you think it is but for those who are a little more technically disinclined, they are things that really exist only in cyberspace. Programs, websites, and such would mean it is a little easier to work with. Programs downloaded to desktop or websites, things that work on your browser will each have some capability to take a look and see what you need to do what you do.

Looking up software or hardware wallets there is always one step you want to take seriously. Investigate. Do not be afraid of looking it up; it will get you more comfortable in the long run. Most everything will take the big coins, but you want to make sure it works with what you want to get if you work with smaller crypto. Nothing sucks more like having a pile of coins on the web and not having a spot for them.

In any case, when you finally have a basic set up, you will need to learn about what an actual blockchain is and about password protection and seed phrases. No worries, they are next on the docket.
