Today marks two full weeks of my journey into the world of crypto so here is a quick recap of where this newbie currently stands. It all started with a desire to take an old laptop and see if I could mine some cypto. A fortnight later, that old laptop is humming away at a 288.63 has rate and has generated a whopping 1.0787 coins worth almost a quarter. I should hit the 30 coin payout threshold in no time at all at this rate, by my calculations - early 2023...
I didn't start that mining project to get rich in crypto but to stir the imagination and begin a dive into a market I knew nothing about other than that BitCoin was crazy expensive and Elon Musk talked about Dogecoin on SNL.
Two weeks in and Doge holds the smallest value of my lucky seven different kinds of crypto. After the first week I only held two coins - Doge and Raven, one can only imagine how many different coins many of you experts hold. In reverse value order below, the coins I now hold and how I get them are (based on 12/1/21 coin costs in US $):

- ) = 15.0237 ($2.30), rewarded by watching video on
- Ravencoin () = 70.278 ($7.74), GPU mining on gaming desktop computer
- BitCoin () = 0.00017647 ($10.18), rewards from Cointiply faucet game and surveys
That is a total of $21.94, a paltry sum but this isn't about the money yet. While most people take an approach of "work to earn", I've always preferred "work to learn". The more I learned, the more I would eventually earn and there can certainly be a lag between the two.
One of the things I've learned is there are many ways to gain crypto and I haven't even started exploring most of them yet. I'm trying to trade time and effort for crypto rather than simply investing in it. For me, this is the motivating factor and has me very excited to consume as much information as I can. For those of you reading this who have been in crypto for awhile, I'm sure you are laughing an my naivety about the whole thing. But therein lies the fun.
There are many new areas to earn some coins that I've read or heard about in the last two weeks that I haven't even dipped my newbie crypto toes into yet. Those areas are so exciting and I cannot wait to try them out. I'm sure as the time passes and the excitement fade this will become more of a grind. That is when the attention shifts to maximizing gains turning the attention to earning from learning, however, that seems a long way off. But for now, constantly updating my Google spreadsheet with updated coin amounts and seeing the pennies grow keeps me coming back for more knowledge. I feel like I'm a newborn baby just opening his eyes for the first time, its really bright and there isn't much focus.
It is not where I end up, it is the whole journey that is the meaningful experience.
