For those of us hearing signal for the first time, it’s a messaging platform that allows users to communicate with their friends, family and loved ones all around the globe. The app is secured and according to them, only you the account owner can has access to your data like calls, and messages.
Now, today the great messaging platform is considering the idea of adding crypto currency payments into the messaging app by integrating Mobilecoin, a crypto currency based on the Stellar blockchain. The great messaging platform is wishing the integration of Mobilecoin into the app will help the app to be more resistant to surveillance. Not withstanding, the signal CEO Moxie Marlinspike recognizes the crypto development, telling platformer it was only some “design exploration.”

Even though this news is a great news to the crypto currency community, there are also problems that the great messaging app may experience if things don’t go well. One of the positive effect is that the management of the app is considering this decision in order to make it easier for people in developing countries to move money around, according to the report. Also, the management is planning to build up its privacy provisions by allowing users to create unique usernames, rather than using their mobile numbers as a means to be identified.
Also, some management staff of the signal messaging app have worries the addition of the proposed plan might bring more abusive behavior and other negative attention to the app and this may also be affecting the encryption technologies from the regulators negatively, reported by Platformer.
Some management staff also see the addition of the crypto payment future as risky because they believe it will draw criminals attention to the platform, and the usernames may be the basis of impersonating and scamming related activities on the platform. But to me l hope if they take security measures tightly, all these fears they have may not be practically seen.
Well, as Gregg Bernstein, a former user researcher at Signal said, “The world needs products like Signal but they also need Signal to be thoughtful”, l too believe in that too. We are all happy about the steps they are taking to Improve their quality of services, but they have to also review their decisions and if they see that they can’t really tackle the challenges that might be involved, it will be safer for them not to implement their plan they have.
