Why Jerusalem needs to be on Upland

What is Upland?

Aa described on it's website, Upland is the earth's metaverse mapped to the real world and accessible via web, iOS and Android. It is an innovative blockchain based game. It has a lot of potential and will be slowly expanding to (hopefully) map the entire Earth, but for now they're looking for the next city to include in the game.

Jerusalem

Jerusalem is the capital of the state of Israel. But beyond just that, it is considered one of the oldest cities in the world. It has significant cultural importance too. It is a holy site to the three major Abrahamic religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. According to the Bible, King David conquered the city and established it as the capital of the united kingdom of Israel, and his son, King Solomon, commissioned the building of the First Temple which historians placed at about 957 BC. Jerusalem's most important and contested religious sites include the Western Wall and Temple Mount for Jews, the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians. I will attempt to keep this article as neutral as possible and not comment on the current politico-social conditions in this city.

Why Jerusalem?

Although Jerusalem is known primarily for its religious/politico-social significance, the city is also home to many artistic and cultural venues. It has been declared as a UNESCO world heritage site. It is an interesting city where old 1st century architecture rubs shoulders with modern designs and neither feels out of place.

The following is a short list of culturally significant sites in Jerusalem.

Mar Elias Monastery - Greek Orthodox Monastery. Tradition says that the Prophet Elijah (Elias) used to rest there when he escaped from Jezebel.

Tantur theological center - a Christian theological center in Southern Jerusalem, opened for all the variation of Christianity.

St. Simeon monastery is a Greek Orthodox monastery built over what believed to be the house and even the burial place of St. Simeon (Gospel of Luke).

Ramat Rachel archaeological site is an archaeological site dates back from biblical times to first century BC.

Monastery of the Cross - a Greek Orthodox monastery

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The first church on the site was built by Queen Helena, mother of the emperor Constantine.

Temple Mount - The Temple Mount is in the Old City of Jerusalem, and it is important to both Jews and Muslims, to the extent that ferocious international disputes have arisen over it. The Temple Mount is the third most important site in Islam (and the most important in Judaism), and it is a showcase for Islamic architecture and design from the Umayyad to Ottoman times. (Jewish construction dating from Roman times and before can also be found at the site and in the vicinity.) Jews often pray at the Western Wall in the Old City on the side of the Temple Mount.

The Israel Museum is the largest museum in Israel. The Museum contains the "shrine of the book" where the dead sea scrolls are kept. It also has a large scale model of Jerusalem in ancient times.

Yad Vashem is Israel's Holocaust museum.

The Garden Tomb  on Nablus Road, East Jerusalem marks what many believe is the location of Calvary and the tomb of Jesus. The tomb is located in a lush big garden which is a good break away from the hustle and bustle of East Jerusalem.

The Biblical Zoo is one of Israel's most popular tourist sites, in West Jerusalem

Mount Herzl (Mount of Remembrance) in the end of Herzl boulevard street. adjacent to Yad VaShem and the Jerusalem Forest. this is the national cemetery of Israel and includes "Yitzhak Rabin grave" and the "Theodor Herzl Museum". also including the memorials of the "Victims of Acts of Terror Memorial" and the "Garden of the Missing Soldiers".

Yemin Moshe the first modern neighbourhood outside the Old Town, a beautiful cluster of small cobbled streets.

Old City — the atmospheric historical core of Jerusalem surrounded by Ottoman period walls, filled with sites of massive religious significance and a bustling approach to life.

Mount of Olives

The Tomb of Lazarus

• Hass Promenade

• Zion Mountain

These are just a few of the historically significant sites in Jerusalem.

Let me know what you guys think in the comments.

Cheers!
