Liber Health, a UAE-based startup is relying on the power of blockchain to help flatten the COVID-19 curve in the country. An incubator called in5 incubator is helping in the designing blockchain-based methods that could be used to contain the spread of the virus.

A new idea for tracking patients

Liber Health is working on a platform that could be used for patient identification using blockchain technology. According to a report published on May 20, the startup is working on contactless systems that could recognize biometric ID data and help in analyzing suspected symptoms of COVID-19. Liber Health hopes that it would be able to track patients that have been in contact with coronavirus patients. This could help them to quarantine themselves and stop the spread of the virus.

The startup also plans to expand this conversation with major private and public sector entities. It will focus on providing this service in the UAE so that the technology could be implemented to reduce the number of coronavirus infections within the country.

The platform could help in saving a life

According to Liber Health CEO Syed Abrar Ahmed, the platform could be useful in saving thousands of lives lost because of medical efforts. These errors usually occur because of a lack of auditable data. Founder and CEO of consulting firm Munfarid, Dr. Sana Farid also echoed the sentiment.

The startup incubator in5 will also engage in robotics and 3D printing to design personal protective equipment for all frontline medical workers. Their proposed systems will help in keeping the children at home. It will also help in creating a contactless biometric ID system.

Managing director of in5 and Dubai Media City, Majed Al Suwaidi commented on the efforts and said,

“Dubai has always been a hub for talent, and we enable highly-skilled individuals with innovative ideas to thrive across our sector-focused ecosystems. Some of the sharpest minds are now creating potentially life-saving products and services to beat the virus, while others are proactively reaching out to relevant authorities to provide knowledge and expertise.”

Last month, Nasdaq-listed Centogene signed a partnership deal with Ubirch, an IoT blockchain startup. This partnership will help in handling mass testing for COVID-19 in a secure manner. Colombia is also looking for blockchain-based solutions to fight the pandemic.
