COVID has decimated and ruined the lively hoods of some many people. When Congress passed the COVID act I was nothing short of shocked for the reason that after 8 months of no help they decided the checks should be half of what they were previously. This is ignoring the fact that BOTH bills ignored a large chunk of 18-25-year-olds who are claimed by their parents so they missed out. As someone who graduated from college and was not eligible because my parents had to claim me for the ability to be on their health insurance, it is very disappointing.
For the families and people I know that can benefit $600 is nothing. Really after 8 months $600 is not going to do anything for what these people have run into. Love him or hate him President Trump was right to tell Congress to do better. These elected officials are supposed to help their people and they are not. They are really just teased us before slapping us back down again. After 8 months $2,000 per person who did taxes is not a crazy idea.
Many people will say that the COVID bill and the one to fund the government are different. While they are two different bills both sides said they must be passed with each other. Both sides agreed that COIVD could only pass with government funding. While I can somewhat understand helping allies like the government funding bill did the sheer amount is astonishing considering the little amount that they are giving their own people. Americans deserve to be taken care of first by the government not second or third. $600 a person up to $2,400 is not going to dramatically move the needle for families. Americans need help. Americans need their government to work for them and not foreign powers and cutting the relief in half does not do this. If anything with the amount of time it took the number should be higher like the President wants. Imagine if it was like the prior one where it was the full amount per adult in the house (yes I know that income mattered but for the majority of Americans who need it they did not reach the number for deductions) it would be possible for these family to see $6,000 for a family of 4. Broken up over the 8 months this would $750 a month for these families which is not crazy as those that have not lost their jobs either have dealt with reduced hours or pay freezes that are impacted by inflation.
