I've been screaming this for months now in this blog, but Snowden rightfully has a much larger audience than me. So I'll happily link to this video in hopes that you guys on the fence about this stuff actually see what will happen — if you all think of crypto as just a way to make more fiat.
Crypto, and bitcoin especially, is a fundamental change in the way people do business with nation-states. The notion of the "public" nation-state as supreme over your life is a relatively new one. Just a few generations before, private corporations like the British East India Company and the Dutch East India Company were the entities extracting taxes. Governments backed by private bankers were secondary in the hierarchy. Before that it was religious states. And now the power rests with you as sovereign. No state now exercises a violence monopoly over your financials. None.
But I know a lot of idiots don't see it this way, or they just want to put their head in the sand about it. They sold enough BTC back into USD to get a couple of discrete hookers for a few months, so the children be damned.
Me personally, I dollar cost average into Monero as well as bitcoin as a hedge against cowards and idiots. If you morons give your power over the bitcoin network to government because you let it completely regulate onramps, wallets and privacy, Monero is the best solution right now. There are a number of solutions competing for business in the privacy space, including Secret Network, Tornado.Cash and now Swirl.Cash on BSC. I'm watching all of these projects and will be investing heavily in the ones that are most decentralized and effective.
But the main thing that we can all do now is to stop being punk ass sissies. There is no argument about if the US government should be able to tax crypto-to-crypto exchanges. None. They don't even hold jurisdiction. There's no need to argue precedent, because it's not an argument that has to be proven. But the guns trump all. If your friends capitulate and give power to government over their transactions, then government will assume that power over them and you. It's on all of us to come together, lobby for privacy and ensure government stays in its child's place with crypto. So sayeth the Godfather.
