It turns out that there has always been censorship. No, it's understandable of course. But she was also in science. Yes, not just in science, but well-known scientists who by that time had already made their great discoveries and were known to the entire world scientific community were subjected to it. But first things first.
Of course, the most famous case of censorship in science concerns Marie Sklodowska-Curie. The woman is a legend. The one that was admired not only by scientists, but also by many ordinary citizens from different countries. She created nuclear physics and won two Nobel Prizes. In 1921, she had a meeting with the President of the United States and she walked hand in hand with him down the steps of the White House. But this all happened later.
The first time she could very seriously suffer from censorship on a sexual basis, yes, yes, in the 20th century a scientist is an exception, than the rule and great men did a lot so as not to allow Maria Curie to become the one that we all know now . So, for the first time, Maria teaches the same Nobel Prize in 1903, together with her husband Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel. But this could not happen, because the members of the Swedish Academy did not want to nominate a woman for such a prestigious award at all. And only the intervention of Pierre Curie changed the course of events. And Marie Curie in 1903 still receives her first, but not the only Nobel Prize. The entire scientific world was shocked. It turns out that a woman can do science and not just do it, but make an undeniable contribution to science, make great discoveries and even get a Nobel Prize for it.
In 1910, Marie Curie was nominated for election to the French Academy of Sciences. And that's where she lost. Yes, yes, all for the same reason. Census by gender. How can a woman even become a member of such a respected and conservative institution as the Academy of Sciences. And it didn’t even help that she was already a Nobel laureate, a great scientist who created a new direction in physics. Marie Curie lost that election and never ran again herself. For her, it was a blow, quite a strong one.
And later, after the death of her husband, already known to the whole world and having by that time the second Nobel Prize, but already in the field of chemistry, Maria was subjected to terrible attacks and even newspapers persecuted her. And all because the woman scientist dared to fall in love, and her chosen one was not free. Together with her daughters, she had to leave home, because the pressure from the press and the crowd was very serious. The First World War put everything in its place. This fragile woman overcame all obstacles and prohibitions, war and death, and became the first great woman to receive two Nobel Prizes. All this we know now.
But all this might not have happened. Whatever she was a fighter, no matter how she went to her goal, sweeping away all obstacles on the way, and censorship constantly went in parallel with her, interfering and making adjustments to her life and work.
Now imagine that there would be no censorship that slowed down Maria and sometimes brought despair, yes, yes, she had thoughts of committing suicide, since her friends were there at such difficult moments in her life. What heights could this woman reach? How many more discoveries could you make?
