Russian cryptocurrency exchange LIVECOIN has announced that it has ceased its services after the attack.
Livecoin servers were seized last month and lost control over the exchange infrastructure. The attacker first changed the crypto exchange rates to unrealistic figures. While the price of bitcoin was 23 thousand dollars on December 23, it exceeded 400 thousand dollars on the Russian crypto exchange.Livecoin managed to check the servers again but the attacker stole too much money.
The following statement was made from the stock exchange after the attack: “Our service has suffered greatly, both technically and financially. There is no way to continue active business in these circumstances, so we make the difficult decision to stop services and pay the remaining funds to customers. ”Exchange managers stressed that this was "a carefully planned attack for the past few months".
