While many independent artists have sunken under the waves of the pandemic. A select list of up-rising talents resisted and showed incredible creativity and engagement towards Art.
While we mark a stop at this remarkable woman, to introduce her work and her vision of Art and music, this is what you find when you google her wikipedia biography:
- Sevda Alizadeh (Persian: ????? ????????; born 1 September 1987), known professionally as Sevdaliza, is an Iranian-Dutch singer, songwriter and record producer. In 2015, she released two EPs, The Suspended Kid and Children of Silk. While her music is typically in English, she released her first Persian-language song "Bebin" in early 2017 in protest of Executive Order 13769. Her debut album, ISON, was released on 26 April 2017 via her record label, Twisted Elegance. In 2018, she released a third EP The Calling, followed by her second studio album Shabrang in 2020.
The release of her latest album entitled SHABRANG, was first announced by the release of HABIBI, her single and short movie directed by her new brand SEVDA+ANA that she describes as the perfect and most natural evolution of her art work.
Feeling empowered by creativity in the hardest times is an artist's gift from the universe. She still chose to keep on her own path as an independent artist, despite the popularity she is gaining day after day.
It has already been streamed more than 2 million times on spotify, she has been on the covers of numerous feminist magazines. Spreading her message and being an inspiration for all young artists all over the globe.
The Music industry has more than ever failed its first troopers : Artists. Major labels are under paying the creative part and boosting the commercial content. Which leads the music industry into an endless loop of mediocrity. Even though resisting this crisis can seem impossible, yet sometime doing what we do best can make things better. In times of distress and hardships, art is must needed. It is on times like these that the world's best artist have come up with their most famous works.
Of course there are famous artworks that were made in times of historic peace. Yet these times were very short and few in history. The best books, music sheets, songs, creations and inventions were made in times of extreme oppression or war. Times of pandemics, or extreme weather conditions.
I am currently practicing and working on my drawing skills, sketching portraits of famous contemporary artists I respect. First as an Artist but also as a marketer. Some figures have really found their way into making it work without losing their soul to the industry- without changing their vision in art due to ROI- she composes, produces, sings, acts, and directs her own songs and music videos. so here is a Sketch Portrait of Sevdaliza as I see her.
This artist symbolizes the resistance Art deserves in times like the ones we live in these days. Kind of the resistance and freedom that NFTs might provide to all artists that are not willing to submit to a system that undervalues their work and exploits their talent in several ways, a system that takes more than it gives.
There are many news in the ART world lately. A lot of noise is coming up from the US. While Europe is trying to push independent artists to show an example of how to survive ... Big names in the music Industry are being accused of horrific sexual crimes against other big names. I would love to tell you all about that in my next article !
