One Satoshi at a Time: Another “Real Creator of Bitcoin” Crops Up

Another “Satoshi Nakamoto” reveal is looming, as promised by “My Reveal”, a dedicated site that could not even handle traffic load over the weekend. The site details the experience and rationale of a person with a cryptography background, telling the story of how Bitcoin (BTC) was launched in 2009.

Unfortunately, the latest reveal still has not moved any of the coins in the initial blocks, estimated to hold Satoshi’s hoard of nearly 1 million BTC. However, the reveal site mentions an upcoming revelation this Monday, linking the creation of the first digital coin to Chaldean numerology. But markets will have to wait, as the second part of the reveal is scheduled for 4 PM EDT.

Skeptics see the move as a publicity stunt, as Nakamoto could easily identify himself using blockchain technology to sign a message with the genesis block private key. Instead, the new “real Satoshi Nakamoto” is using a PR firm to spread his message.

Even without cryptographic evidence, the new claimant to Nakamoto’s fame plans to reveal a future plan for the development of Bitcoin’s network, named Tabula Rasa. What this plan contains is anyone’s guess, but it may ruffle feathers as there are several networks claiming to serve “Satoshi’s true vision”.

The new reveal also claims that the Bitcoin name derived from Bank of Credit and Commerce International, or BCCI. The bank, a Pakistani entity founded by Agha Hasan Abedi, found itself surrounded by scandal, for disguising losses and serving criminals with money-laundering services. Apparently, Bitcoin was conceived as a way to revive the idea of BCCI as a bank for anyone.

But it gets more outlandish - the new claimant spends a long time detailing the derivation of the Satoshi Nakamoto name, mixing in Chaldean numerology and Bible quotes.

The new claimant credits computer scientist Hal Finney with the deep work on a peer-to-peer electronic cash system, claiming close work on the creation of the Bitcoin code.

“I owe Hal a lot. He was a true genius. At some point in my life, if I can do something so people remember him by, I’ll do so,” wrote the claimant.

The site remains high on claims and low on real evidence, despite the pictures of an old laptop presumably used to mine the first BTC coins. At one point, the reveal site failed to support the traffic, raising additional questions about its legitimacy.

Currently, several persons are claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto, including Craig Wright, as well as a Twitter persona of the real Satoshi Nakamoto. John McAffee also promised to reveal Satoshi’s true identity, but backed off after a few hints. In the past months, additional claims turned out to be PR stunts to bring attention to news outlets or projects.

The new claimant is set to explain why not even one of the 980,000 BTC has left the original wallet. But the site, retained by a firm named Satoshi Nakamoto Renaissance Holdings, is seen as most probably another stunt to boost the visibility of a new project that would otherwise pass under the radar.
