The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, has launched a blockchain digital health platform to verify residents’ vaccination status. As stated in a press release published on the 29th of March, the platform, Excelsior Pass, will “fast-track reopening of businesses and entertainment venues statewide.”

The Excelsior Pass is similar to a mobile boarding pass as individuals will be able to save it on their mobile phones. Participants may also choose to print the Pass. Each Pass will have a unique QR code to prove vaccination and verify proofs of negative COVID-19 test results. The press release further assured that individuals’ data would remain confidential.

Participating New York residents can use the blockchain-based health platform to gain entry at theaters, wedding receptions, major stadiums, arenas, catered events & other events in accordance with all guidelines provided by the New York State.

Already, major venues like Madison Square Garden in New York City have declared that they would begin using Excelsior Pass from the coming week. Also, the Times Union Center has said it will use the new platform.

Governor Cuomo said that the Excelsior Pass is another tool the government is using to wage war against the global health crisis while ensuring the safe reopening of more sectors of the economy.
