The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested a crypto drug dealer who operated via the dark web. This the first time a drug dealer will be caught on the darknet in India.

According to reports, the arrest was a result of the NCB’s efforts in an international clampdown known as Operation Trance, on narcotics trading carried out via the dark web. The drug dealers investigated were said to have used international couriers as well as several international delivery services to carry out their illicit activities.

The arrested suspect is a 21-year-old man known as Dipu Singh. The arrest saw the confiscation of about 55,000 different tablets including psychotropic drugs. Singh allegedly sold a lot of these drugs to many countries including Romania, Spain and the U.S.

Reports suggest that the suspect began with selling drugs for erectile dysfunction on the dark web. Singh then sold tramadol, alprazolam and many other drugs on several large dark web platforms. Singh was able to hide his money trail for a long time using crypto for payments.

One of the many points used by crypto naysayers is the ease with which the technology is used to conceal illegal payments and activity.

Last year, the FBI clamped down on a dark web system that conducted money laundering activities using crypto.
