I will be the first to admit that when Ted Cruz comes out and wants to change something that impacts/influences things on Capital Hill, well they are not always the best and brightest ideas, to say the least. As someone who works for Congress on a Committee, it was surprising, to say the least when he introduced a resolution that not only makes sense on paper but could result in Members of Congress actually getting hands-on experience with crypto. Sen. Cruz introduced a resolution that would make the vending machines located in the Capital and in the House/Senate Office buildings accept crypto alongside credit cards and cash.

Unlike other jobs, Congressional Staffers for better or worse live and die by the vending machines depending on what office building you are located in as some buildings' food locations close by 2:30 PM on a weekday. When those regular food locations close your options are extremely limited and offices themselves typically keep chips on hand just to feed staff since we work till either 5 or 6 PM depending on what is going on. One of the best ways for people to learn about new things is using a hands-on method and so bam here is one that is offered to people and not forced upon them.

I cannot count the number of times that I have run into very important Members stopping by a vending machine at 4:00 PM because everything else was closed and they needed a snack to get them through a meeting. Knowing these Members will interact with these machines gives them exposure to this technology and can thus show them it is not the evil Ponzi scheme many vocal Members try to make it out to be. It would also allow them to see first-hand how messed up the rules and regulations are and force them to adjust them or suffer from the same issues that people in the industry do. Let me tell you they do not want to suffer so legislation and corrections would quickly be passed to fix this.

It isn't a fix but it is a rather simple thing that could result in a huge improvement in how Congress handles the industry. While I have met a ton of staffers who have been exposed to the industry further exposure will only help improve the way that the industry is being handled as it provides people around the Members first-hand experience in the benefits of the industry.
