Gruzinska Mestia, prawie jak polskie Zakopane - prawie, bo bez patologicznej turystyki
I stayed in Mestia for 4 days, but I think it was too short. A week is the optimal time to feel the atmosphere of this town. It is said that Mestia is like Georgian Zakopane, there is something to it, except that there is no rotten Krupowki.
W miejscowosci Mestia przebywalem 4 dni, ale uwazam ze to za krotko. Tydzien to jest optymalny czas na wczucie sie w klimat tego miasteczka. Mowi sie, ze Mestia, to takie gruzinskie Zakopane, cos w tym jest, tyle tylko, ze nie ma tam zgnilych Krupowek.

The town is not degenerated by the pathological tourist industry like this place in Zakopane. The prices are very affordable, there are no scammers, no ciupag with a thermometer and no polar bears.
Miasteczko nie jest zdegenerowane przez patologiczny przemysl turystyczny jak to miejsce w Zakopanym. Ceny sa bardzo przystepne, nie ma naciagaczy, ciupag z termometrem i polarnych misiow.
For example, Kharcho soup with a large piece of bread and full of beef costs in a restaurant from 9 to 12 lari, i.e. PLN 16-20. 50 ml of local moonshine, i.e. chacha, 3 lara or PLN 5. Accommodation can be found from PLN 40 per night for 2 people!!
Dla przykladu, zupa Kharczo z wielkim kawalkiem chleba, w ktorej jest pelno miesa wolowego kosztuje w restauracji od 9 do 12 lari czyli 16-20 zl. 50 ml miejscowego bimbru, czyli czaczy 3 lary czyli 5 zl. Noclegi natomiast mozna znalezc juz od 40 zl za dobe za 2 osoby!!
Our accommodation was in Lenashi, about 5 km from the center of Mestia. It didn't stop us from walking to the town every day, because we did 25-30 km a day anyway. It made us very happy because the views in this area are beautiful.
Nasz nocleg znajdowal sie w miejscowosci Lenashi okolo 5 km od centrum Mestii. Nie przeszkadzalo nam to w codziennym spacerowaniu do miasteczka, bo dziennie i tak robilismy po 25-30 km. Sprawialo to nam ogromna radosc bo widoki w tej okolicy sa przepiekne.

Mestia also has its own market square, or rather a center around which a lot is happening. Inside there is a small square, a park with a lot of benches where you can sit quietly, for example, with a snack and a beer or wine. Yes, with alcohol in the city center, because in Georgia there is no problem with it, and you don't have to hide the contents in your bag.
Mestia ma tez swoj rynek, albo bardziej centrum wokol ktorego wiele sie dzieje. W srodku znajduje sie maly skwer, park gdzie jest sporo lawek i mozna sobie spokojnie usiasc na przyklad z przekaska z piwkiem czy winkiem. Tak z alkoholem w centrum miasteczka, bo w Gruzji nie ma z tym najmniejszego problemu, i nie musisz ukrywac zawartosci w torebce.
They really want to join the European Union, but unfortunately they have no idea what it involves? Permits, concessions, restrictions, fines, etc. etc. - they only see the colorful life of EU citizens. I advise them against it and would gladly move to Georgia permanently, because they don't know how much potential they have and how much freedom they have.
Oni bardzo pragna do Unii Europejskie, ale niestety nie maja zielonego pojecia z czym to sie wiaze? Zezwolenia, koncesje, ograniczenia, mandaty etc. etc. - widza tylko kolorowe zycie obywateli Unii. Odradzam im, i chetnie przeniosl bym sie do Gruzji na stale, bo nie wiedza jaki maja potencjal i ile wolnosci.
To sum up, if I had to choose a free stay in Zakopane and a paid one in Mestia, I would choose the Georgian town. The views in the Tatra Mountains are certainly beautiful, but I say that Mestia beats them. And not only beautiful views, but normal prices, friendly people, idyllic atmosphere. I recommend.
Podsumowujac, gdybym mial wybierac darmowy pobyt w Zakopanym a platny w Mestii wybieram Gruzinskie miasteczko. Widoki w Tatrach sa na pewno piekne, ale twierdze, ze Mestia bije je na glowe. I nie tylko piekne widoki, ale normalne ceny, przyjazni ludzie, sielska atmosfera. Polecam.
