FBI recovers majority of Colonial Pipeline Crypto
Well, well, well isn't it interesting that Crypto can be tracked and yet the powers that be, continue to claim its only used for BAD and EVIL! Most ignore that the Blockchain has transparency native to design and implementation.
FBI tracked down the payment on the Dark Web - Seems the FBI tracked down part of the Colonial Hacker payments and then proceeded to commence a hack against the password.
FBI was successful by breaking into the account and recovering 64 of the 75 BTC paid to the hackers. Worth roughly $2.3M of the $4.4M paid out to the hackers.
Diving deeper - seems the FBI also used a search warrant to help gain access to their public keys (it pays to have the power)
Wonder does the FBI keep the ransom or return it to Colonial Pipeline? We may never know!
Will Colonial ever purchase BTC and keep it in their Corporate Treasury? If I could be on the fly on the wall during those discussions. It might break down like this - No way, its only for evil. No its not its a new asset. No its Evil... LOL that would be major league fun!
