It all started with an attack on the power plant, K-Electric, Pakistan's largest electricity producer attacked by ransomware.
K-Electric is the only supplier to the city of Karachi which has 15 million inhabitants despite the attack the city of Karachi had no problems with electricity supply.
The software called "NetWalker" runs mainly on OS windows and was discovered in 2019.
K-Electric has begun consultations with international IT security experts and local authorities to find out the source of the attack.
Although the attack was not claimed there were also two other attacks that would have hit Banco Estado, the only public bank in Chile and had to cease its activities for the country pandemic several.
The bank declared that the funds of their users were not affected, this happened on September 4th and an investigation revealed that the hacker group REvil would have been responsible for the attack with the famous ransomware "NetWalker".
There was also an attack on the Argentinean immigration service on August 27th, the REvil group published extracts of sensitive data from the immigration agency as proof that it was indeed responsible for the hacking. Officials closed the border checkpoints for 4 hours because of ransomware.
This leads the investigator to consider that REvil would also be responsible for the K-Electric power station
