I hope you are all well and having excellent day, welcome to CryptoGod-1’s blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be looking at the recent announcement of the Ministry of Education in El Salvador, which has begun a pilot program "that could bring Bitcoin education to every school in the country in 2024."

Bitcoin Education

The Ministry of Education in El Salvador has started a pilot program which will aim to bring Bitcoin education to all schools within the nation by 2024. The ambitious program was announced on the morning of September the 7th, as the the pilot program launched on the 2nd anniversary of the so-called Bitcoin Law. The current aim of the program is to educated 150 public school teachers about Bitcoin, with those teachers then going on to transfer the knowledge to their students back around the country.

The program will launch with the aid of @MyFirstBitcoin, an education NGO and a non-profit based in El Salvador. So far it has two main goals - to teach the nation Bitcoin and to help make the country "into an example for the world to follow."

My First Bitcoin launched back in 2021 and so far has taught over 25,000 in-person, in-country students. An open-source education, known as Bitcoin Diploma, had its first students in April 2022 and is only available and viewable online. Currently it is in its 5th edition. The Ministry of Education staff were given this education, and in turn it was used as primary source material to develop their own curriculum for the teachers. The expansion of the program will see this knowledge given out to students in the regional locations.

My First Bitcoin Founder John Dennehy noted:

"The Bitcoin Diploma has been a wild success and one that has grown faster than anyone expected."

He also noted that the course has been translated, printed out, and independently taught globally. Many of the themes in the course are similar to those in the mega-popular "The Bitcoin Standard," but the author Saifedean Ammous did not work on the program's workbook. The My First Bitcoin organisation also works alongside grassroots education projects in over 20 nations, as they aim to share their open-source materials and "best practices" with as many students as possible. They are also in talks with two additional Latin American governments who are interested in providing Bitcoin education at scale.

Alongside My First Bitcoin, the educational idea also got support from Bitcoin Beach, a "circular economy project" that "led to the nation adopting Bitcoin as legal tender." They helped with the funding of printing books and training. The official government office, The Bitcoin Office, also assisted, while Cubo+, an educational program focused on Bitcoin and Lightning developers, assisted in the project.

Have a great day.
