Whilst many people have heard of Bitcoin and other crypto currency over the years, it is often the case they think "That's nice" and don't do anything about it. I was once one of them until earlier this year. I was ........... a 50 year old crypto virgin.
Just after Christmas I decided to take a long, hard look at myself and see where I was at. I knew I had about 15 more years of work ahead of me hopefully (Shanghai issues work permits to 60 for most foreigners but for people in senior positions we can get it to 65 at the moment). I was carrying on paying into the UK government pension scheme and I also had my teachers pension which I could start accessing at 60 or even from 55 if I wanted it.) But, I didn't have any sort of pension I was currently saving and so I set about looking into what I could do.
The first step was set up a cash and shares ISA. This is a UK scheme similar to a Roth IRA. You can invest up to ?20,000 a year and any profits, interest or dividends are tax free.
I then started to look into crypto. After lighting some candles, turning off the lights and putting some Barry White playing to set the mood right, I initially I dipped my toe in the water and started to look at how I could get any crypto currency for free. There are a variety of free crypto faucets which you can earn minute amounts of crypto each hour after submitting a catchpa. There is the possibility of winning more but it would take a long time to get there. However, every little helps so I started doing them. (Referral links are below for the best ones I have found. There's also ways of mining crypto using your phone and crypto coins that are currently being set up and are being easily mined using your phone. Hopefully some of these will pan out in the future. I then looked into how I could go about buying crypto and settled on Coinbase. The nice thing about this website was that I could also earn free crytpo by watching some information videos and answering questions. Once I had my account set up I earned a few coins in different currencies. I then set about sorting out a weekly purchase of BitCoin and pressed the button. That was it, I was done. No longer a crypto virgin.
Once I had pulled the trigger I felt happier. I had started to take the first steps in preparing for the future. I have now also invested in Etherium, Cardano and XRP. Looking to research and invest in more but the main bulk of the investment will be in Bitcoin. Please follow me on my journey and join the discussion on other good coins to invest in.
