If you ask people today what crypto is mostly used for, a good amount of people will answer with illegal activities. Those people are wrong. Sure, decentralized currency has had a shady past, but the times of buying substances with BTC are long over. Almost all currencies can be tracked since it's easier to make an open currency than one that hides transactions or where they came from.
Reason two: It's volatile
Another reason people are hesitant is the volatile nature of coins. They see one post about Bitcoin rising and falling and assume all crypto is the same. Of course, people on the inside know about stablecoins like Tether and smart contract tokens like USD Coin. Volatility can also be a good thing, as it allows for earning money quickly.
Reason three: They think it's a scam / pyramid scheme
We all know that crypto is provably fair and secure, contrary to modern banks, but outsiders don't see that. They see people spending money just to see some numbers go up and assume the money is being wasted because they don't realize you can exchange crypto for fiat at any time, as long as you have an exchange, be it decentralized or not.
