This particular question was asked by an inquisitive fellow that needs clarification on Reddit under a post where it was announced that Bitcoincash fork has been completed and COINBASE has reactivated bitcoincash transaction.
Can someone explain why I want bitcoin cash? Why not just buy more bitcoin? Why buy bitcoin cash?
That was his question. I don't know if he was just trying to criticize BCH or he really wanted an answer. Well, if the later was his motive then I think he is clear now because he got the best answers.

When you go to the store wanting to buy a hammer to hit a few nails to attach a picture to the wall, do you pick a hammer that works but looks worse than average or do you pick a hammer that looks great but is useless for hitting nails?
Bitcoin Cash is the working hammer, because (duh) it works as money.
Bitcoin BTC is the hammer that looks nice, but using it you will only get your fingers broken (high fees), not hit a nail.

Check out the Bitcoin Whitepaper - it is surprisingly understandable. Figure out what ideas it proposes sound good to you. Then see which crypto currencies imbue those ideas best. This will help you critically assess the other answers to your question.
For me, it appears the blockchain can scale (support every single 'cup of coffee' transaction). This makes it more peer-to-peer and simpler than needing a second layer. BCH takes this approach while BTC does not (nor have they kept the price for transactions low while preparing/deploying second layer).
I started using BCH for not long ago, but the experience has been awesome. The fees is almost unnoticeable and the speed can be compared with that of light lol.
I love Bitcoin too for the fact that it is somewhat reliable and you can invest in it for HODLing without much fear. Or let me just say I love them both. Oh! I love every crypto for the Financial freedom!
