Who Are Bitcoin Whales? Do They Affect The Market?

Do repost and rate:

Who are whales? We define "whales" entities (or people) with a balance of at least 1000 Bitcoins.

Through the blackchain we can easily calculate the number of wallets that contain more than 1000 Bitcoins, however we would fall into error.

Obviously those who hold 1000 Bitcoins, for example, could divide them into multiple addresses or even those addresses could be from an exchange (therefore belonging to several different people).

But who is it?

-Entities that own 1000 BTC

-Exchange

-Also retail

Among the largest whales one cannot fail to mention Niklas Nikolajsen (founder and chairman of BitcoinSuisseAG) and his curious history (the first 50 BTC received them in exchange for a coffee).

Nikolajsen also continues to invest around $ 5,000-6,000 a day in Bitcoin in 2020 (about $ 160,000 per month).

From 2011 to 2015 there was an increase in the number of whales. The golden year of whales is 2016, afterwards there has been a decrease until 2020 where it seems that the number has started to increase again.

As for dominance despite the recent increase in the number of Bitcoin held by whales, they are still not ad rich (USD) compared to the past.

What has emerged is that people who own at least 1000 BTC are growing but at the same time the quantity owned by the single entity is decreasing.

A few years ago dominance was in the hands of fewer entities that owned large capitals, but today we are moving towards decentralization.

The number of whales is growing but the quantity held is decreasing.
