Vitalik Buterin presented the details of the first hard fork in Ethereum 2.0

The co-founder of the Ethereum token, Vitalik Buterin, spoke about the first hard fork in the zero phase of ETH2. The update will add support for light clients, improve overall performance, and reduce penalties for inactivity of validators.

The working name of the Hard Fork is "HF1". One of the goals of the update is to check the progress of the hard fork in ETH2 in anticipation of more important changes. HF1 will add support for lightweight clients that can run on smartphones and in browsers. Thanks to this, the developers expect to create a much more "trustless" ecosystem of wallets.

HF1 will make changes to the algorithm for calculating the remuneration of validators, so that data can be collected in real time. The desired result of this may be to simplify the client implementation process and reduce the cost of updating the Merkle tree.

Also, the hard fork will make a revision of the penalties for validators: some of them will decrease, others will increase. A validator that has experienced several short failures with a total duration of one hour will lose ten times less than a validator that is disconnected from the network for the same period of time. Another goal that came to light much later is to reduce the likelihood of attacks with block reorganization.
