For understanding the double spending problem, Let's consider an example: A user has 1 BTC, in double spending, user can use 1 BTC to purchase object A. Similarly, User can again use same 1 BTC to purchase the object B.

Double spending problem occurs when there is 51% attack. 51% attack occurs when particular node controls the 51% of total hash/mining power of entire bitcoin network. When it occurs, the attacker can change the transaction in the block allowing user to double spend the BTC.
