Too Many Stories Of Thefts and Breaches On Cryptocurrencies in 2020

2020 is the year of cryptocurrency but this year there are also many stories of breaches and theft of multi-billion dollar cryptocurrencies. Let's remember in 2020. This the year party of investors and hackers. Miilion dollars assets are stolen from exchanges and crypto wallets. Let's flash back to the nightmare stories of crypto breaching. 

1. April 2020 a

- Hackers stole $25 million from lendf.me platform. Lendf.me is lending platform. The hacker stole the money but with negotiation, the hackers return the asset. 

UPDATE, April 21: The hackers have now returned all the stolen funds after they accidentally leaked an IP address during the attack. The funds were returned after Lendf.me and the dForce Foundation negotiated with the hackers using blockchain transactions.

Bisq exchange lost about $250,000 of crypto asset. 3 btc and 4000 Monero were stolen. 

Cryptocurrency exchange Bisq halted trading following a cyberattack leading to the theft of $250,000 worth of virtual currency from users.

2. August 2020

- 2gether lost 1,2 million euro. Hacker stole native token 2gether 2G worth 1,2 million euro. 

The unknown threat actors reportedly behind the attack made off with €1.183 million in cryptocurrency in investment accounts, which equates to 26.79% of overall funds.

3. September 2020

- KUCOIN was attacked by hackers and lost about $150 million. The hackers stole btc , eth and other token assets. 

KuCoin said the hacker managed to steal Bitcoin assets, ERC-20-based tokens, along with other types of tokens

Eterbase was stolen $ 5.4 million cryptocurrency assets. The hackers compromise the hot wallet. 

ETERBASE, a Bratislava-based cryptocurrency exchange, disclosed this week a security breach. The exchange said hackers breached its internal network and stole cryptocurrency funds worth $5.4 million.

4. October 2020 

- Hackers breached the defi platform of Harvest Finance and drained $24 million crypto assets. This is the first defi plaftorm was hacked.

5. November 2020

- Akropolis is a lending platform. It lost about $2 million due to flash loan. 

Cryptocurrency borrowing and lending service Akropolis says a hacker used a "flash loan" attack against its platform and stole roughly $2 million worth of Dai cryptocurrency.

Pickle finance lost $19,7 million. Hackers breached the protocol and stole the DAI asset. 

Popular decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Pickle Finance was hacked on Saturday, draining $19.7 million in DAI, a decentralized stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar, from a Pickle wallet.

6. December 2020

- Compound , a defi plafrom was hacked in December. It lost about $11 million. 

 

An exit scam allegedly performed by Compounder Finance DeFi developers has left investors $11 million out of pocket.

CEO of Nexus Mutual wallet was compromised and lost $8 million asset. 

A total of 370,000 of the project’s native NXM tokens were drained from Hugh Karp’s address to one owned by the attacker at 09:40 am UTC, according to data source etherscan.io.

EXMO A UK based exchanger was hacked and lost $10,5 million. 

Igor Igamberdiev, the exchange lost roughly $10.5 million in digital assets.

Those are only biggest lost funds that I record. There are more breaches and thefts in cryptocurrency from exchanges or personal wallets. Compromising is a way the hacker stealing money. I am not sure how compromising technically. Some say that compromising is breaching IP address or wifi spoofing. In 2021, there will be more stories of breaching and stealing crypto money. Will investors run away from cryptocurrency? You know the answer.
