According to a public letter from Senior Deputy Comptroller and Senior Counsel Jonathan Gould any national bank can hold cryptographic keys for their clients.
This marks a new era for cryptocurrencies, because before that was only allowed to a specialist firm with a state license (e.g. Coinbase).
This will surely add competition amongst the banks to provide custodial services and hopefully more services such as exchanges. It is major news for adoption!
